Extremum Seeking Control Applied to Airfoil Trailing-Edge Noise Suppression

نویسندگان

چکیده

Extremum seeking control (ESC) and its slope generalization are applied in a high-fidelity flow simulation framework for reduction of acoustic noise generated by NACA0012 airfoil. Two Reynolds numbers studied which different generation mechanisms excited. For low number flow, the scattering vortex shedding at airfoil trailing edge produces tonal noise, while moderate case, boundary-layer instabilities scatter edge, leading to emission multiple tones superimposed on broadband hump. Different setups investigated, they configured either find an optimal steady actuator intensity or position blowing/suction device. Implementation details discussed regarding modules design digital filters. Analyses physical phenomena as well relevant behavior actuated plant conducted understand how extremum loop leverages physics noise. Depending configuration setup, results demonstrate that ESC can provide considerable reductions.

Adaptive extremum-seeking control applied to bioreactors

Adaptive extremum-seeking controllers are used to handle uncertainties in the modelling of industrial processes. Although these controllers are capable to handle uncertain parameters, an additional persistence of excitation condition is necessary to prove the convergence of these unknown parameters to their true values. If complex non-linear models are used it is not dear how this condition can...

LES tests on airfoil trailing edge serration

In the present study, a large number of acoustic simulations are carried out for a low noise airfoil with different Trailing Edge Serrations (TES). The Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FWH) acoustic analogy is used for noise prediction at trailing edge. The acoustic solver is running on the platform of our in-house incompressible flow solver EllipSys3D. The flow solution is first obtained from the Lar...

An experimental study of airfoil instability tonal noise with trailing edge serrations

This paper presents an experimental study of the effect of trailing edge serrations on airfoil instability noise. Detailed aeroacoustic measurements are presented of the noise radiated by an NACA-0012 airfoil with trailing edge serrations in a low to moderate speed flow under acoustical free field conditions. The existence of a separated boundary layer near the trailing edge of the airfoil at a...

Uncertainty quantification for the trailing-edge noise of a controlled-diffusion airfoil

Two deterministic incompressible flow solvers are coupled with a non-intrusive stochastic collocation method to propagate several aerodynamic uncertainties encountered in a standard trailing-edge noise experiment of a low-speed Controlled-Diffusion (CD) airfoil to predict the far-field noise. Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) are applied to the same restric...

Unsteady Aerodynamics and Trailing-edge Vortex Sheet of An Airfoil

Unsteady flow models of wings and airfoils have been studied to understand the aerodynamic performance of natural flyers and provide improved maneuverability for micro aerial vehicles (MAVs). Vortex methods have been extensively applied to reduce the dimensionality of these aerodynamic models, based on the proper estimation of the distribution and evolution of the vortices in the wake. In such ...
